My journalism career began in Britain and has continued in Australia, taking in national newspapers, regional titles, specialist magazines, digital publishing and newsroom leadership. Along the way I have launched and relaunched publications, written about everything from business and technology to health and cars, and learned that the best stories usually begin with somebody noticing what everyone else has walked past.
Motoring has been a particularly long-running enthusiasm. I was the launch editor of Which Car?, news editor of What Car?, later managing editor of Australian Classic Car, and co-founded PracticalMotoring.com.au. Five non-fiction motoring books followed - proof that a lifelong interest can become a very productive professional habit.
Fiction occupies the other side of the desk. My published crime thriller The Astrakhan's Feather sits alongside Christiana, a novel of dangerous romance, the AI thriller 2028, and The Third Willow, the first Edward Mercier Mystery. Having once owned a house in Savigny-sous-Faye, I know rural France well enough to love both its beauty and its capacity for secrets.
